Good if you don't mind these annoyances : Bionaire BFH5000-UM Electric Fireplace Heater with Remote Control

I bought 2 of these around christmas time. One for me and one for a gift. The shipping was free and came in a timely manner. when I recieved them they both had specks inside the glass. I assume it was fragments from the fake log. That rattled loose during shipping. Never the less you can't get them out. Now there is slight discoloration under the glass on the red back ground. Also make sure you use the short screws to attach the base. The directions make it look like you use the long ones. If you hang it on the wall. It's a pain to take it down, and then attach it to the base. So i'ts really one or the other. As far as being a good heater it is. When i'ts in the teens it helps the furnace from coming on every 10 minutes! I've used it every day for a month now and my electric bill has went up 50.00. So if I would have turned up my furnace to stay that warm. My gas bill would have been alot more than that! So for sure buy one! They give off good heat, and the ambiance is cool too! Also turn off the fake log crackle.It annoys everyone.You will enjoy the ambiance alot more!

I'm a 63 year old widow...tired of wood, fire smells, etc. My girlfriend bought an Amish fireplace which gave me the idea of an insert - since I already had a real fireplace. I roughly purchased the less costly model; however, I noticed that this model had logs that glowed - so I purchased it. I set it up myself in about 5 minutes, plugged it in and - voila - amazing!!! I also purchased a Cd from the Uk of crackling fire sounds, and when I have both going, it's like the real thing. Love It!!!

The flame does look very real. This fireplace insert is a great stock in general. I took out 1 star for 2 minor reasons though:

1. The remote only switches on and off. It can not control the heat setting. So you still have to arrival the unit for heat setting changes. One good thing is that the remote is wireless (433Mhz). So you don't need line-of-sight between remote and the power switch for it to work. Hiding the power cord is much easier with the wireless remote.

2. Although the fire looks real, it may not be as consuming as real fire. I guess fake fire may just have its limitation.

Despite of these minor concerns, the unit is pretty well designed. One great advantage is that you get to use the fireplace all year long - even
in the hottest day.
